Since we have converted to the Rohloff system we are enjoying 14 effective speeds with a very wide range of 526% between the 1st and the 14th gear. Everything is inside the hub and there is only one shifter to access all the gears. The gears are always clean and the wear is minimal. Denise and I love it! Up to now, we have been riding 30,749 trouble free kilometres with the Rohloff!
We have started riding on Velocity NOBS rims in June 2014. We had trouble with cracked rims in the past and we were looking for something much stronger to build our wheels. In their rim lineup, Velocity has a rim named Atlas and their marketing positioning is that "it can hold the world". When we explained that we were riding fully loaded bikes with 75 pounds of gear on the racks on each bikes I challenged the Sales representative and asked if they would stand behind their rims for a 2 year Bike Tour in South America where 60% of the riding surface would be gravel. Without hesitation he said! We have ridden 28,842 kilometres (253,000 meters of vertical drop) on these rims and retired them because the breaking surface had become to thin with all the breaking we did in the Andes! Excellent rims! We sure will buy these or the Atlas version again!
